We see the majority of users start to be AMP-indexed within 1 to 7 days, though the answer depends on how often Google crawls your site. This means that after a few days, you may start to see AMP pages being indexed, and after a few more days, the number should rise.
The number of AMP-indexed pages is entirely dependent upon how many "normal" non-AMP pages Google crawls.
This is because the Google AMP indexing process works like this, always:
- Google crawls a non-AMP page
- Google sees certain invisible <meta> tags on the non-AMP page, which indicate it has an AMP version available
- Google then crawls the AMP version
- Google indexes the AMP version
This means that Google will queue your AMP page for indexing once it crawls your equivalent non-AMP page.
As you can see, if Google never completes step 1, then your AMP pages never get indexed. For this reason, it's important to make sure your normal pages are getting crawled.
We have seen more popular sites begin to be indexed in as little as 1 day, and we have seen less popular sites take over a week to begin indexing. If you are having trouble after 2 weeks, it's likely because Google is not crawling your non-AMP pages.
You can check how many normal pages you have indexed by viewing Google Search Console. Then you can also check when those pages were "last crawled". This will give you an idea of how fast Google crawls your site, and therefore how fast you should start to see your pages indexed on AMP.
