Modifying the "All" collection on Shopify

When creating a Shopify store, there is one collection that is automatically generated for you by Shopify.  This is the "mysite.com/collections/all" collection.  This collection is not able to be found in your Shopify admin panel, which can be frustrating for some users because perhaps they'd like to manually edit this collection.

Sometimes you might want to hide or sort products from this collection. Perhaps you have a $0 product, or a product generated by third-party app which isn't meant to be seen, yet this collection page still shows that product.  Maybe you want to change the title of this from something other than "All products". This isn't immediately possible and can be a frustrating experience.

But did you know there is still a way to edit this collection?  All you need to do is manually create a collection titled "All".  This will allow you to then create manual or automatic sorting rules for this collection.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.
  2. Click Create collection.
  3. Create the collection:
    1. Give your collection the title All.
    2. In the Collection type section, select Automated.
    3. Set the product condition Product price is greater than $0.
    4. Optional: To hide products that are out of stock, add the condition Inventory stock is greater than 0 as well
  4. Click Save.
  5. Now that you have created your All collection, you can sort the products within it. Scroll to the Products section and select an option from the Sort drop-down menu.
If you select Manually, then you can rearrange your products by using their drag and drop handles ⋮⋮.
  6. If you want to change the title of your All collection, then you can edit it now that the collection has been created.
Important note on editing the title: It is important, however, that the handle of the collection remains set as all. You can confirm this by scrolling to the Search engine listing preview section, and clicking Edit website SEO.
In the URL and handle text box, you should see a URL that ends in /all.
If the URL ends in something different, then change it to /all, and click Save.

Creating this new collection will allow you to manually order the products in the order that you'd like them to appear, and this collection will replace the /collections/all page.  When you use an app like AMP by Shop Sheriff, then the app will also output the same order that you've set up here in your Shopify Admin Panel.
